Prologue
The beginning of a legend
A tortoiseshell she-cat played in the new ThunderClan camp twirling in the air she batted at a piece of moss and flung it to the ground. A smaller, fluffy, clumsy brown paw caught it with one claw.
“No fair! That’s MINE!” squeaked the tortoiseshell, who had never really made friends, not even her littermates liked her.
The brown she-cat grinned; “O.K.” and she tossed it back to her.
The tortoiseshell blinked, she had never had a cat give back what she said was hers before.
“Well, if you want to play you can…” she mumbled.
“Great!” mewed the brown cat, “I’m Thistlekit.”
“Hollykit.” The tortoiseshell meowed uncertainty.
“Can my friend play too?” asked Thistlekit, “Her name is Waspkit.”
“I don’t want to play with HER!” The tall yellow and black she-cat sniffed, “SHE, doesn’t have ANY friends Thistlekit, leave her.”
“No.” Thistlekit huffed, “If you’re going to judge her before you meet her then I’m not your friend anymore.”
Waspkit sighed, “I can play.” And she did, the three became instant friends.

Meanwhile in RiverClan an orange and black she-cat was walking. Suddenly a cream and yellow she-cat ran over.
“Owlkit! Owlkit!” She cried bounding over “Hollytimber’s kitting!”
Owlkit gasped excitedly, she and the other cat, Onionkit, had been the only cats in the nursery for moons!
“Really?”
“Yeah!” Onionkit’s words were almost drowned out by a shriek from the nursery.
Later that day, while Hollytimber and her mate, Tigerpool were taking a walk and thinking of names for the kit Onionkit and Owlkit snuck in to see the kit
Gasping at the handsome orange and white tom they crooned over him, and he batted at their faces in response.
Suddenly the white furred, green eyed Hollytimber burst in. “His name!” She panted, “Is Clawkit!”
“Clawkit.” Owlkit whispered, surprised at how well it fit the little tom.
The kit mewled and then spoke his first word, “Owlkit.”

In WindClan an apprentice ceremony was being performed. All of Fangkit’s littermates had become apprentices but her.
“Fangkit.” Coalstar called her forward. “From this day forward, until you receive your warrior name you shall be called Fangpaw. I hope you will grow up to be as good a warrior as your mentor, Minnowstripe.”
Fangpaw suppressed a shriek of happiness, Coalstar had chosen the deputy of WindClan to be her mentor! As she touched noses with the cream and brown deputy her new mentor whispered in her ear:
“I promise I’ll be the best mentor ever.”
“I know you will,” Fangpaw whispered back.” And just like that the ceremony was over, and Fangpaw was an apprentice.
After sunhigh Fangpaw’s two best friends, Petalpaw, the medicine cat apprentice and Shredkit.
“No FAIR!” Shredkit wailed.
Petalpaw sighed.
“Now BOTH of you are apprentices and I’m NOT!” the kit finished
“But you’re six m-”
“I’m sorry everyone I forgot four apprentices, come on Stonekit, Eggkit, Shredkit, and Thrushkit, your turn!”
Both Petalpaw and Fangpaw looked at each other while Shredkit, soon to be Shredpaw bounded to Coalstar.
Finally Petalpaw spoke. “How could Coalstar forget his own kit’s apprentice ceremony?” he asked.
Fangpaw shrugged then dashed after Shredkit with Petalpaw right behind her.

Finally in ShadowClan.
“Swallowpaw, Swallowpaw!” the crowds cheered for Swallowpaw, who was now an apprentice, she then dashed over to Berrykit.
“I’m an APPRENTCIE” she cheered happily. And Berrykit cheered with her.
Wingkit passed her. “Well in four moons I’LL be and apprentice too.” She scoffed.
Swallowpaw looked hurt, which pleased Wingkit. Berrykit scratched his ear.
“What?” asked Berrykit when Wingkit and Swallowpaw looked at him. “I have a FLEA OK!”
Just then Swallowpaw’s mentor: Spottedlizard shows up. Swallowpaw, we’re looking around the territory soon, so finish up.
“Gotta go. Bye Berrykit.”
“I… HAVE… A… FLEA!” Berrykit snapped at Wingkit as Swallowpaw dashed away.
